TOEICトラップ：Because / Because Of / Due To
because / because of / due to は、どれも理由を表すことができます。判断するときは日本語訳から始めるのではなく、空欄の後ろに何が続くかを確認します。
The event was cancelled because the weather was dangerous.
The event was cancelled because of dangerous weather.
The event was cancelled due to dangerous weather.
まず2つの基本を確認したい場合は、Because と Because Of。理由と対比を混同しやすい場合は、Because と Although を使えます。
判断するのは「理由の文」か「理由のもの・状況」か
後ろに理由の文：the manager was absent
後ろに理由のもの・状況：the manager’s absence
同じく理由のもの・状況。文脈によっては because of よりやや改まった表現になります。
秒数で決めるルールは使いません。 まず空欄の後ろを確認し、その形に合う理由表現を選びます。
Because：後ろに理由の文が続く
The meeting was postponed because the director was unavailable.
The order was delayed because the supplier sent the wrong parts.
The client approved the proposal because the estimate was reasonable.
誰か・何かが「どうした」「どうだった」という理由の文が続きます。
Because of：後ろに理由のもの・状況が続く
The meeting was postponed because of the director’s absence.
The order was delayed because of a supplier error.
The client approved the proposal because of the reasonable estimate.
because of の後ろでは、理由を文として述べるのではなく、原因となるもの・出来事・状況を示します。
Due to：こちらも理由のもの・状況の前
due to は because of と同じように原因を示せます。案内文や業務的な説明では、やや改まった表現として使われることがあります。
The office will be closed due to building maintenance.
The delivery was delayed due to severe weather.
The event was cancelled due to low registration numbers.

元の練習には正解が2つになる問題があった
元ページのQ2とQ3では、because of と due to の両方が文法的に成立しました。1つだけ選ぶ練習としては安全ではありません。
The meeting was cancelled ___ the manager’s illness.
because of the manager’s illness も due to the manager’s illness も可能です。
そのため、下のQ2/Q3は英語版MTC-RES-0162と同じ修正を使い、競合する正解候補を外しています。
