TOEIC助動詞トラップ：Can / Could / Should / Must / May / Might
TOEICの助動詞問題は、単なる文法問題ではありません。義務、助言、可能性、許可、依頼、そしてビジネス上のトーンを判断する問題です。

TOEIC判断ルール： 意味だけで選ばないでください。この文が「ルール」「助言」「可能性」「許可」「丁寧な依頼」「能力」のどれを表しているかを見ます。
7秒で見るポイント
TOEICで助動詞の選択肢が出たら、先にビジネス場面を名前で言います。
Must：強いルール・義務
must は、強いルールや義務を表すときに使います。TOEICでは、社内ルール、提出期限、安全、申請、手続きなどでよく出ます。
All visitors must sign in at reception.
Applications must be submitted by Friday.
Employees must follow the safety instructions.
速い確認：助言ではなく「規則」に見えるなら、must の方向です。
Should：助言・期待される行動
should は、助言やおすすめ、期待される行動を表します。must より弱く、絶対ルールではないことが多いです。
You should double-check the figures before the meeting.
The team should arrive at least ten minutes early.
Applicants should attach a copy of their résumé.
速い確認：厳しい義務ではなく「した方がよい」に近いなら、should を確認します。
Can / Could：能力・可能性・丁寧な依頼
can は能力や普通の可能性を表します。could は過去の能力、弱い可能性、または丁寧な依頼で使われます。
The software can process invoices automatically.
The old system could handle only 200 orders per day.
Could you send the revised schedule?
速い確認：丁寧なビジネス依頼なら、could you は can you より自然なことがあります。
May / Might：可能性
may と might は、可能性を表すことが多いです。may は、許可を丁寧に聞くときにも使われます。
The delivery may arrive this afternoon.
The meeting might be postponed.
May I speak with the manager?
速い確認：まだ確実ではない内容なら可能性を見ます。丁寧な許可なら may を確認します。
TOEICでよく見るビジネス合図
空欄の近くにある語を見る
TOEICでは、助動詞そのものよりも、文のトーンが答えを教えていることがあります。
The documents ___ be signed by a supervisor before submission.
合図： before submission → 必要な手続き。
答えの方向： must。
You ___ review the figures before presenting them.
合図： 助言・安全な行動。
答えの方向： should。

速く読む人が間違えるポイント
速く読む人は、知っている助動詞を見た瞬間に選びがちです。しかし TOEIC が見ているのは、ルール、助言、可能性、許可、依頼、能力のどれかです。
危ない近道：「この助動詞は知っているからこれ」
よい近道：「この文にはどんなビジネストーンが必要か」

助動詞は小さく見えるため、簡単に感じます。しかし答えは、期限、ルール、不確実さ、依頼、助言などの小さな合図で決まることがあります。
