TOEIC If文トラップ：条件と結果の合図を読む
If文は簡単に見えますが、TOEICでは「条件」と「結果」の関係を見ていることがよくあります。

If the shipment arrives tomorrow, we will contact the client.
If we had more staff, we would finish sooner.
If the report had arrived earlier, we would have reviewed it yesterday.
ひっかけは if そのものではありません。ひっかけは、その周りにある時間と結果の合図です。
TOEIC判断ルール： if を見たら、現実の未来条件なのか、想像の話なのか、過去に起きなかった話なのかを確認します。
7秒で見るポイント
先に全文を訳そうとしないでください。まず結果の合図を見ます。
現実の未来条件：if の後ろに will を入れすぎない
TOEICのビジネス文では、現実の未来条件は if の後ろに普通の動き、その後の結果に will, can, may が来ることが多いです。
自然： If the manager approves the request, we will begin the project.
ひっかけ： If the manager will approve the request, we will begin the project.
通常のTOEIC条件文では、will は条件側ではなく結果側に入ります。
想像の話：would を見る
結果に would がある場合、その文は現実の予定ではなく、想像の話を表すことがあります。
If the budget were larger, we would hire another designer.
would があるので、普通の未来予定ではなく、想像の条件です。
過去の逃した機会：would have を見る
結果に would have がある場合、TOEICでは過去に起きなかったことを表すことが多いです。
If the documents had arrived earlier, we would have processed the order yesterday.
had arrived と would have processed が、過去の逃した機会を示しています。

TOEICビジネス文で見る
If the invoice arrives today, the accounting team will process it tomorrow.
現実の未来条件。 arrives と結果の will process が対応しています。
If the office were closer to the station, more employees would use public transport.
想像の話。 would が強い合図です。
If the package had been delivered on Monday, we would have installed the equipment yesterday.
過去の逃した機会。 had been delivered と would have installed がセットです。
空欄の近くにある語を見る
TOEICでは、will, would, would have, yesterday, tomorrow などの近くの語が答えを教えてくれます。
If the shipment ___ tomorrow, we will notify you.
合図： will notify → 現実の未来条件。
答えの方向： arrives。
If the budget ___ larger, we would hire more staff.
合図： would hire → 想像の話。
答えの方向： were。
If the report had arrived earlier, we ___ it yesterday.
合図： had arrived + yesterday → 過去の未実現。
答えの方向： would have reviewed。

速く読む人が間違えるポイント
速く読む人は、if を見て意味だけで選びがちです。しかしTOEICでは、結果側の合図が答えを決めていることが多いです。
危ない質問：「if だから条件文だな」
よい質問：「結果は現実の未来か、想像か、過去の未実現か」
時間制限でこのミスが戻る理由
If文のミスは、全文を日本語に訳そうとすると戻りやすくなります。訳している間に、結果の合図が見えにくくなるからです。
安全なTOEICの動きは、先に will, would, would have を探すことです。
