TOEICトラップ：Unless と If Not
unless と if not は、どちらも否定条件に関係します。ただし、TOEICのビジネス文では同じ感覚で使えないことがあります。

We will cancel the order unless payment is received today.
We will cancel the order if payment is not received today.
TOEIC判断ルール： unless は「〜でない限り」「もし〜しなければ」というより、まず except if「その場合を除いて」と考えると判断しやすくなります。

先に全文を訳そうとしないでください。「この条件が起きれば、結果が止まるのか」を見ます。
Unless：except if の感覚
unless は、ある条件が結果を止めたり変えたりする場合によく使われます。
The meeting will be postponed unless the manager returns by noon.
We cannot process the order unless the form is complete.
The discount will expire unless you renew your membership today.
速い確認：一つの条件が結果を止めるなら、unless が合う可能性があります。
If not：直接の否定条件
if not は、「もし〜しないなら」という否定条件をそのまま言うときに分かりやすい形です。
If the printer does not work, please contact IT.
If the invoice is not correct, the accounting team will reject it.
If the client does not approve the design, we will revise it.
速い確認：ただ「これが起きないなら」と言っているだけなら、if ... not の方が自然なことがあります。
TOEICでよくあるひっかけ
TOEICでは、unless の近くに別の否定語が出ることがあります。ここで二重否定のような混乱が起きます。
明確： We will proceed unless the client objects.
明確： We will not proceed if the client does not approve.
危険： We will not proceed unless the client does not object.
否定語が多いときは、速く処理しすぎないでください。問題は単語ではなく、条件の論理です。

will cancel, cannot process, will expire, please contact など、結果側の合図を見ます。

速く読む人が間違えるポイント
速く読む人は、unless を単純に if not と置き換えがちです。しかし unless は、多くの場合「except if」と考えた方が安全です。
