What is the speaker really communicating?
Sometimes the literal words are only part of the message. Listen for what the speaker implies about the situation.
Ask: “What does this sentence really mean here?”
話し手が本当に伝えたいことは？
言葉通りの意味だけでは、メッセージ全体が分からないことがあります。 話し手が 暗に伝えている意味 を考えましょう。
「この状況で、本当は何を伝えている？」と考えます。
We should probably leave soon. 考えられる意味：
そろそろ帰ったほうがよさそう。
Look for the speaker's intention
A sentence may really be communicating a suggestion, warning, refusal, preference, or practical message.
Literal words tell you what was said. Context tells you why it was said.
話し手の意図を考えよう
文の本当の意味が、 提案、 注意、断り、希望、 または実際的なメッセージの場合があります。
言葉は「何を言ったか」を示し、状況は「なぜ言ったか」を示します。

We may need to hurry or choose somewhere else. 急ぐか、別の店を選ぶ必要がありそう。
Don't stop at the literal meaning
Every word may be clear, but you can still miss the answer if you do not understand why the speaker said it.
Understand the situation, not just the sentence.
言葉通りの意味だけで止まらない
すべての単語が聞き取れても、 なぜその発言をしたのか が分からなければ正解できないことがあります。
文だけではなく、状況全体を理解しましょう。

Hear the words. Understand the situation. Then ask what the speaker is really communicating.
Read between the lines — but stay inside the evidence you heard.
