Listen for chunks, not perfect words

In natural speech, words often link together, become weaker, or sound shorter than you expect from written English.

Keep following the message even when one small word is unclear.

自然な英語では、単語がつながったり、弱くなったり、書かれた形より短く聞こえたりします。

一つの小さな単語が聞こえなくても、メッセージを追い続けましょう。

Familiar English may sound unfamiliar

You may know every word on paper, but connected speech changes how the phrase reaches your ear. Listen for the recognisable meaning rather than a perfect written pronunciation.

You do not need to hear every sound separately to understand the message.

知っている英語でも違って聞こえる

書けば分かる単語でも、つながった自然な発音では違って聞こえることがあります。完璧な一語一語ではなく、分かる意味をつかみましょう。

すべての音を別々に聞き取らなくても、内容は理解できます。

Don't panic when words seem to disappear

When speech feels fast, learners often stop listening because one word was missed. That lost second can make you miss the important words that follow.

Miss one sound? Keep going. The main idea may still be completely clear.

単語が消えたように聞こえても焦らない

一語聞き取れないと、そこで考え込んでしまい、その後の大切な情報を聞き逃すことがあります。

一つの音を逃しても、そのまま聞き続けましょう。

Stay calm. Catch the strong words and useful chunks. Then use them to build the main idea.

Chunk → Key information → Main idea.
